In Islam we are not allowed to marry or reproduce with our immediate family.
Islam is not 'pro incest' and neither is the Arab culture.
As a matter of fact, Southerners in the USA have a higher risk of producing deformed offspring. They are more lenient on how close 'close' is.
Don't be too quick to judge who the 'inbred nation' really is.

Basically because 1st cousin marriages to Westerners is something that isn't allowed and they assume that people who do so must be performing incest. It's basically what we are used to in our surroundings. To us it is very much normal for cousins to get married but to them it isn't so you find it abnormal and try to label it to the closest meaning that comes into your head.
ReplyDeleteI am a Westerner and I have never heard 1st cousin marriages referred to as "incest". Anthropologists may class them that way, but it's not common parlance. Traditionally we frown on them, but I don't think anyone feels about them as they do about parent-child or sibling relations.
ReplyDeleteIt's all good stuff, but I don't think it's true that relations "closer" than 1st cousin happen in the American South. They certainly aren't "accepted". And even cousin marriages are frowned on, except unofficially and among the poorest and most uneducated classes.
If I look up incest on Wiki, it appears that some studies DO show that 1st cousin marriages ARE more likely to result in genetic problems for offspring though not as likely as brother sister or parent child relations. It doesn't seem to be "pure myth".
The gene pool isn't meant to be a puddle.

It seems childish when you say We're not incest; Southerners from the US are incest! *sticks tongue out. It's equivalent to saying nuh uh you are! You defend Muslims from this ignorant misinformation, but yet you believe the same misinformation as long as it's about people who aren't your own. While looking up facts you should have looked up incest marriage laws in the USA. The more republican "redneck" states are actually the most strict on enforcing laws against cousin marriages. While states spread across the US have loopholes to these cousin marriages. Don't point your finger at Southerners to take the finger away from Arabic people. Defend yourself...defend your people with facts and intelligence not more hate and ignorance directed at a different nation.
